Who We Are

Family-led gutter installers,
still here in year 25.

Lenny Scarola started DreamHome in 1999 to combine connection with craftsmanship. He worked every role on the way up, from sales calls to crew supervision. Nish Patel joined in 2000 and rose from neighborhood field sales to Vice President. Kevin Butler, our General Manager and HAAG Certified Inspector, joined in 2005 and has run every role in the company.

We install seamless aluminum, copper, and half-round gutters across NoVA and MD, paired with LeafFilter and gutter-guard systems, downspout-discharge engineering, and the fascia and soffit repair the install actually requires. Two offices, same crews, same standards. Our Springfield, VA office serves Northern Virginia; our Hanover, MD office serves Maryland.

How We Build

Gutter systems built for the Mid-Atlantic.

Northern Virginia and Maryland gutters face IECC Climate Zone 4 mixed-humid extremes: 95 to 110 degree summers, single-digit winter mornings, summer microbursts, ice-dam freeze-thaw cycles, and Chesapeake Bay salt-aerosol on the MD side. We spec the gutter profile, hanger pattern, and downspout discharge to the roof above and the soil below, not the upsell.

01 / PROFILE

Seamless 5″ and 6″ K-style aluminum, copper, or half-round

5″ K-style aluminum handles most NoVA + MD roof loads; 6″ is the call for steep roof pitches, large valley counts, and metal roofs that shed faster. Copper and half-round are the architectural upgrades for historic and high-end homes. Every run formed on site in your color, no shop seams, no joint leaks.

02 / HANGER + DOWNSPOUT

Hidden hangers at 24″ centers + engineered downspout discharge

Hidden hangers on 24″ centers (16″ on long runs and ice-prone north faces) anchor through the fascia into solid framing, not into rotted wood. Downspouts sized to the roof’s drainage area, discharge angled away from the foundation a minimum of 4 feet, splash blocks or buried PVC where the soil grade demands it. The gutter is only half the system.

03 / INSTALL

Roof-system aware, not stand-alone gutter crew

A gutter is the discharge end of the roof above. The same HAAG-certified inspector who reads the roof reads the drip edge, valley count, attic ventilation, and downspout placement before the gutter is sized. Stand-alone gutter crews install fine-looking gutters that overflow during heavy rain because the roof above sends more water than the gutter was sized for. We do not.

04 / DIAGNOSIS

Hidden fascia rot inspected before tear-off

Every gutter tear-off exposes the fascia, sub-fascia, and roof-deck edge. We probe for rot, termite damage, and ice-dam moisture intrusion BEFORE quoting the install. Per-linear-foot fascia replacement adders are disclosed up front, not as a surprise once the old gutter is on the lawn.

Five Promises

What we put
in writing.

Customers tell us five things sealed the decision. Each one is a contract clause with a number. If we miss one, we make it right at our cost. Not a marketing line, a contract obligation.

01

Every gutter, every install.

Tarps over landscaping below every run. Magnetic nail sweep across every driveway, walkway, and lawn at end of every day. No old gutter scrap, screws, or strap pieces left in the beds. Final walkthrough with the homeowner and a water test before the truck leaves.

02

HOA approval, handled.

Burke Centre Conservancy. Reston Association. Columbia Association. Greenbriar. We’ve filed gutter-color and downspout-placement applications hundreds of times, color chips paired against the trim, photos for the file. You sign once.

03

Hidden fascia rot disclosed before we quote.

Every gutter tear-off exposes the fascia behind it. We probe with a moisture meter during the inspection for rot, termite damage, and ice-dam moisture intrusion at the drip edge. Per-linear-foot fascia replacement adders are disclosed up front, not as a “that’s $400 a board” surprise after the old gutter is out.

04

Neighbors, not storm chasers.

Springfield and Hanover are physical offices, not PO boxes. Same crews on every job. The workmanship warranty stays valid because we are still here in year 15. Storm chasers vanish; we do not.

05

25-year workmanship warranty.

Layered on top of the aluminum gutter mill warranty (20 to 30 years against finish failure) and the LeafFilter or guard-system product warranty when those are installed. Transferable if you sell the home. The full document is in every contract, not a verbal promise.

Services

From a single repair to every gutter on the home.

Six service families. Inspection first. We tell you when a targeted repair holds for another 10 years and when a full system replacement is the better economic call.

What to Expect

Inspection to install in seven steps.

Most full-home gutter installs finish in a single day. Two-story homes with copper, half-round, or buried-discharge downspout extensions take 1 to 2 days. Material lead time is days, not weeks — seamless aluminum is formed on site, and we stock the common colors.

Credentials That Matter

HAAG Certified, Roof + Gutter inspected together, BPI building science.

Gutters are a sub-system of the roof above and the fascia beneath. The credentials worth paying for are the ones that vet exactly that intersection. Stand-alone gutter crews carry none of these. DreamHome carries all four.

DreamHome reads the gutter system together with the roof system because that’s where most gutter problems actually live. Burke mainstream colonial with under-sized 5″ K-style overflowing in summer storms? Almost always a downspout-count problem, not a gutter problem. Reston cedar-shake home with ice damming at the eaves? Almost always a ventilation + drip-edge problem, not a gutter problem. We tell you what is actually wrong, not what is easiest to sell you.

Profile Choice

Seamless aluminum vs Sectional vinyl: which makes sense for your home?

Sectional vinyl (the gutter your local home center sells in 10-foot sticks) wins on upfront price and nothing else. Seamless aluminum wins on joint count, hanger strength, mill warranty, and longevity. We install seamless because the math is one-sided in NoVA + MD. We will tell you when a targeted repair on existing sectional buys you another 5 years anyway.

Tight-budget single-section repair or rental property: targeted aluminum repair on the failing run. The inspection tells us which conversation to have.

Local Reality

What changes when you replace gutters in a NoVA or MD home.

Five region-specific things that matter here and rarely show up on contractor websites that aren’t this local.

Northern Virginia

Fairfax County downspout discharge, handled.

Like-for-like gutter replacement in Fairfax usually does not need a permit. New downspout-discharge routing into a dry well, a rain garden, or an underground PVC extension under $5,000 typically does not either — but we still file when the project crosses the line. Combine that with the most active HOAs in the metro and a gutter project becomes paperwork-light if you know the rules. We handle the filings when they apply and the HOA architectural review the rest of the time.

Northern Virginia

Why Reston and Burke Centre gutters aren’t simple.

Reston Association dictates gutter color matching trim or fascia by village section, and several sections prohibit white aluminum that contractors install by default. Burke Centre is similarly strict on downspout placement on street-facing elevations. We carry physical color chips paired against your existing trim to the architectural review meeting and document for the file.

Maryland

Why Maryland coastal gutters need different specs.

Anne Arundel sits in a different climate than Frederick or Carroll. Chesapeake Bay salt-aerosol exposure corrodes standard aluminum gutters at the seams and hangers faster than inland MD. Marine-grade hangers, baked-on finishes spec’d for coastal exposure, and copper or galvalume on premium homes outperform the big-box standard. We spec the metal, finish, and hanger to your ZIP code.

Fascia + Sub-Fascia

Hidden fascia rot disclosed before we quote.

Every gutter tear-off exposes the fascia and sub-fascia behind it. We probe with a moisture meter during the inspection for rot, termite damage, and ice-dam moisture intrusion at the drip edge. Per-linear-foot fascia replacement adders are disclosed up front, not as a “that’s $400 a board” surprise once the old gutter is out. The quote you sign is the price you pay, barring genuine discovery items called out in the contract.

Maryland

Verify your Maryland gutter contractor in 30 seconds.

Maryland uses an MHIC license, not a contractor tier like Virginia’s Class A. Verify a contractor’s MHIC at labor.maryland.gov/pq. Our MHIC is #86946. If a contractor can’t produce a current MHIC, walk away. If they say “we’re licensed in Virginia,” walk away faster. VA Class A does not cover MD work.

Cost Transparency

What gutter service and installation cost in NoVA and MD.

Per-home installed. Pricing depends on linear footage, profile (5″ vs 6″, K-style vs half-round), material (aluminum vs copper), guard system, and any fascia or downspout-discharge repair the install requires. Single-section repair from $300. Free inspection determines the right tier for your home.

Service

Repair, Cleaning, or Single-Run Replace

$300–$1,500

Targeted repair of pulling-away runs, pinhole leaks, sagging mid-run, or downspout joint failures. Spring and fall gutter cleanouts with hanger check and downspout flush. The right call when the existing system still has 10 years left.

Standard Install

Seamless Aluminum + Guards

$2,500–$6,500

Full-home tear-off and reinstall in seamless 5″ or 6″ K-style aluminum, baked-on color matched to trim, hidden hangers at 24″ centers, downspouts sized to the roof’s drainage area. LeafFilter or comparable guard system included. The right call for most NoVA + MD homes.

Premium

Copper, Half-Round, or Discharge Engineering

$6,500–$15,000

16-ounce copper K-style or half-round, OR seamless aluminum with engineered buried downspout discharge into a dry well or rain garden, OR a full ice-dam mitigation rebuild on a north-facing roof. The right call for historic homes, HOA-specified architectural profiles, and persistent foundation moisture problems.

Gutter FAQ

Gutter questions NoVA and MD homeowners ask.

How long do new gutters last in Northern Virginia or Maryland?
Realistic life of a seamless aluminum gutter in NoVA + MD is 20 to 30 years; copper runs 50 years or longer; vinyl sectional from the home center is 5 to 10 and not a serious option here. Hangers and seams fail before the gutter itself, especially on south- and west-facing roof pitches that take the most thermal cycling. If your gutters show pulling away from the fascia, pinhole leaks at the back seam, sagging mid-run, or water sheeting behind during rain, get a free inspection.
Is the free gutter inspection really free?
Yes, 100% free with no obligation. The same HAAG-certified inspector who reads the roof system above also reads the fascia, hangers, downspout discharge, and any rot the gutter is feeding. Written findings report with photos within 24 hours. No invoice if you do not move forward.
Why does a roof contractor doing gutters matter?
Gutters are the discharge end of a roof system. Roof pitch, valley count, drip-edge condition, attic ventilation, and downspout placement all feed the gutter’s actual load. A stand-alone gutter crew without roof training will install fine-looking gutters that overflow during heavy rain because the roof above sends more water than the gutter was sized for. Every DreamHome gutter project is inspected by a HAAG-certified inspector who reads both the roof above and the gutter you are buying. Most installers do not.
Do you handle hidden fascia rot found during gutter tear-off?
Yes. We probe the fascia behind the gutter line with a moisture meter during the inspection BEFORE quoting, so the typical “we found rot, that’s $400 per board” surprise does not happen. If significant rot or sheathing damage is discovered only after tear-off (rare with our probe-first process), the contract calls out the per-linear-foot fascia replacement rate up front. The quote you sign is the price you pay, barring genuine discovery items disclosed in the contract.
Do you handle insurance claim documentation for storm-damaged gutters?
Yes. Wind-pulled gutter runs, hail-dented downspouts, ice-dam damage, and fallen-limb impacts all qualify for insurance review. Our HAAG-certified inspector produces written findings adjusters use directly. We work alongside State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Erie, and Virginia Farm Bureau. We do not negotiate the claim itself, that requires a public adjuster license.
What credentials should a Northern Virginia or Maryland gutter contractor have?
Virginia: Class A Contractor License (verify on DPOR), liability insurance, workers compensation, HAAG Certified Inspector for storm-damage claims, and ideally a roofing credential since gutters are the downstream half of the roof system. Maryland: MHIC license (verify on labor.maryland.gov/pq), same insurance, same certifications. Any contractor that cannot produce a current state license number should be declined. A stand-alone gutter crew without roof or building-science training is a red flag in NoVA + MD.
Do you serve my city?
Yes if you’re in our NoVA or MD service territory. NoVA (served from our Springfield, VA office): Fairfax County, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford, Fauquier. MD (served from our Hanover, MD office): Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Baltimore, Frederick, Carroll counties. Full city list in the link cluster below.
