Who We Are

Family-led door installers,
still here in year 25.

Lenny Scarola started DreamHome in 1999 to combine connection with craftsmanship. He worked every role on the way up, from sales calls to crew supervision. Nish Patel joined in 2000 and rose from door-to-door sales to Vice President. Kevin Butler, our General Manager and HAAG Certified Inspector, joined in 2005 and has run every role in the company.

We install ProVia replacement doors across every tier: Signet, Heritage and Embarq fiberglass entry doors, Legacy and Heritage steel entry doors, Spectrum and Decorum storm doors, and Endure sliding patio doors. Two offices, same crews, same standards. Our Springfield, VA office serves Northern Virginia; our Hanover, MD office serves Maryland.

How We Build

Door systems built for the Mid-Atlantic.

Northern Virginia and Maryland doors face IECC Climate Zone 4 mixed-humid extremes: 95 to 110 degree summers, single-digit winter mornings, summer hail, freeze-thaw cycles, and Chesapeake Bay salt-aerosol on the MD side. We spec the door tier, glass package, and install method to the home, not the upsell.

01 / SLAB

ProVia Signet, Heritage, Embarq fiberglass + Legacy / Heritage steel

ProVia Signet for premium fiberglass entries with the deepest color and grain options. Heritage and Embarq fiberglass for the mid-tier majority of NoVA + MD homes. Legacy and Heritage steel for budget-led replacements with a tough-finished look. We carry physical color and grain samples to every estimate.

Signet FiberglassHeritageLegacy Steel
02 / CORE

Polyurethane foam core + multipoint locking

ProVia fiberglass slabs use a polyurethane foam core that is roughly 5x more energy-efficient than wood and resists warping. Multipoint locking standard on Signet, Q-Lon bulb weatherstrip at every contact edge, kerf-mounted door sweep, and Energy Star-qualifying glass packages where the customer wants the federal tax credit.

Polyurethane coreMultipoint lockQ-Lon seal
03 / INSTALL

Full-frame install, not slab-only

The right install method depends on the existing frame. Sound wood frames take a slab-only install. Aged, racked, or rotted jambs take a full-frame replacement with new sill pan, jamb flashing, and a fresh threshold. We probe the threshold and jamb with a moisture meter before quoting so the right method is priced from day one.

04 / DIAGNOSIS

Hidden rot inspected before tear-out

Every door tear-out exposes the threshold, jamb, and sill flashing. We probe for rot, termite damage, and sill-flashing failure BEFORE quoting the install. Per-opening rot repair adders are disclosed up front, not as a surprise once the old door is on the lawn.

Five Promises

What we put
in writing.

Customers tell us five things sealed the decision. Each one is a contract clause with a number. If we miss one, we make it right at our cost. Not a marketing line, a contract obligation.

01

Every door, every install.

Drop cloths over flooring inside every doorway. Tarps over landscaping below the threshold. Interior cleanup at end of every day, not “we’ll come back if you find anything.” Final walkthrough with the homeowner before the truck leaves.

02

HOA approval, handled.

Burke Centre Conservancy. Reston Association. Columbia Association. Greenbriar. We’ve filed door-style, slab-color, and glass-pattern applications hundreds of times, sample door panels to the meeting, photos for the file. You sign once.

03

Hidden rot disclosed before we quote.

Every door tear-out exposes the threshold, jamb, and sill flashing. We probe with a moisture meter during the inspection for rot, termite damage, and flashing failure. Per-opening rot repair adders are disclosed up front, not as a “that’s $800 per opening” surprise after the old door is out.

04

Neighbors, not storm chasers.

Springfield and Hanover are physical offices, not PO boxes. Same crews on every job. The workmanship warranty stays valid because we are still here in year 15. Storm chasers vanish; we do not.

05

25-year workmanship warranty.

Layered on top of ProVia’s lifetime limited entry-door product warranty (and the 10-year decorative glass warranty against fogging or delamination). Transferable if you sell the home. The full document is in every contract, not a verbal promise.

Services

From a single entry door to every exterior opening in the home.

Six service families. Inspection first. We tell you when a single-door replacement holds for another 10-15 years and when a full exterior reset is the better economic call.

What to Expect

Inspection to install in seven steps.

Most single-door installs finish in a single day. A full set of exterior doors with sidelights or a patio slider takes 1 to 2 days once the doors land. The longest stretches are HOA approval and ProVia manufacturing lead time, not the install itself.

01

Credentials That Matter

ProVia Certified vs
Lifetime Warranty Steward vs HAAG Certified.

Three credential programs vet door contractors and the doors they install. ProVia Certified vets the dealer and the install method. Lifetime Warranty Stewardship is the contractual privilege ProVia extends only to certified dealers (your warranty dies if the installer is not on the list). HAAG Certified is the storm-damage credential adjusters trust. DreamHome carries all three. The right door depends on the home, the budget, and the HOA, not the manufacturer’s marketing.

DreamHome carries every credential because mid-Atlantic homes need different doors in different neighborhoods. Reston upscale with HOA-specified slab color and decorative glass? ProVia Signet fiberglass. Burke mainstream colonial? ProVia Heritage fiberglass with a Spectrum storm door. Anne Arundel bayfront with salt-aerosol exposure? ProVia Legacy steel with marine-grade hardware. We choose the door to the home, not to the upsell.

Tier Choice

ProVia Signet vs Builder-grade fiberglass: which makes sense for your home?

Builder-grade fiberglass (the door your 1990s subdivision was built with) wins on upfront price and nothing else. ProVia Signet wins on slab skin thickness, foam core density, hardware, and warranty depth. We install both honestly. The inspection tells us which fits, not our tier preference.

Local Reality

What changes when you replace doors in a NoVA or MD home.

Five region-specific things that matter here and rarely show up on contractor websites that aren’t this local.

Northern Virginia

Fairfax County permits + HOA approval, handled.

Fairfax has the strictest permit enforcement in NoVA, and replacement entry doors usually need a permit when the frame or rough opening is altered. Combine that with the most active HOAs in the metro and a door project becomes paperwork-heavy fast. We handle Fairfax PLUS permit applications, HOA architectural review submissions, and the slab-color + glass-pattern precision Reston and Burke Centre demand. You sign once.

Northern Virginia

Why Reston and Burke Centre doors aren’t simple.

Reston Association dictates slab color and decorative-glass style per village section. The manufacturer color name ProVia ships (“Sandalwood” or “Hunter Green”) does not always match what Reston calls the same shade on its palette. Burke Centre is similarly strict on glass pattern (full-view vs 3/4-light vs Craftsman 3-light). We carry physical color and glass samples to the HOA review meeting and document for the file.

Maryland

Why Maryland coastal doors need different specs.

Anne Arundel sits in a different climate than Frederick or Carroll. Chesapeake Bay humidity drives weatherstrip degradation faster than inland MD, salt-aerosol exposure corrodes standard hinges and locksets that western Maryland never sees. ProVia Legacy steel or Signet fiberglass with marine-grade hardware outperforms big-box doors on bayfront homes. We spec the slab, weatherstripping, and hardware to your ZIP code.

Threshold + Jamb

Hidden rot disclosed before we quote.

Every door tear-out exposes the threshold, jamb, and sill flashing. We probe with a moisture meter during the inspection for rot, termite damage, and sill-flashing failure. Per-opening rot repair adders are disclosed up front, not as a “that’s $800 per opening” surprise once the old door is out. The quote you sign is the price you pay, barring genuine discovery items called out in the contract.

Maryland

Verify your Maryland door contractor in 30 seconds.

Maryland uses an MHIC license, not a contractor tier like Virginia’s Class A. Verify a contractor’s MHIC at labor.maryland.gov/pq. Our MHIC is #86946. If a contractor can’t produce a current MHIC, walk away. If they say “we’re licensed in Virginia,” walk away faster. VA Class A doesn’t cover MD work.

Cost Transparency

What replacement doors cost in NoVA and MD.

Per installed door opening. Pricing depends on the ProVia tier, slab style, glass package, sidelights, and whether a storm door pairs in. Single-door installs from $2,000. Free inspection determines the right tier for your home.

Value Steel

ProVia Legacy / Heritage Steel

$2,000–$4,500

Galvanized steel skin, polyurethane foam core, factory-fit slab + frame. Right for rental properties, side-door replacements, or budget-led refreshes. Pairs with a Spectrum storm door for $600 to $1,800 more.

Mid Fiberglass

ProVia Heritage / Embarq Fiberglass

$4,500–$8,000

Thick fiberglass skin, polyurethane foam core, multipoint locking optional, Q-Lon weatherstrip, ENERGY STAR-qualifying configurations available. Lifetime limited transferable warranty. The right choice for most NoVA + MD entry doors.

Premium / Patio

ProVia Signet + sidelights, or Endure patio

$8,000–$18,000

ProVia Signet fiberglass with decorative glass and sidelights, OR ProVia Endure sliding patio door. The right choice for HOA-specified decorative configurations, French double-door entries, or large patio openings.

“They probed the threshold during the inspection and called out soft framing on the strike side. No surprises when they pulled the old door, the quote was the price. ProVia Heritage fiberglass with sidelights, exactly the slab color Reston wanted, no fight at all.”

“We went with ProVia Signet on the front entry plus a Spectrum storm door for the kids. Crew handled Reston Association ACC approval without our involvement. Multipoint locking is night-and-day vs the builder-grade door we had before. Best contractor experience we’ve had.”

Door FAQ

Door questions NoVA and MD homeowners ask.

How long do replacement entry doors last in Northern Virginia or Maryland?
Realistic life of a ProVia Signet or Heritage fiberglass entry door in NoVA + MD is 30 to 40 years; ProVia carries a lifetime limited warranty when installed by a certified dealer. ProVia Legacy or Heritage steel entry doors last 20 to 30 years, with paint and weatherstrip refreshes along the way. Builder-grade fiberglass or hollow-core steel from a 1990s subdivision is often at end-of-life now, warping, peeling skin, daylight at the threshold, sticky latches, and rising power bills. If your door shows those signs, get a free inspection.
Is the free inspection really free?
Yes, 100% free with no obligation. We perform a full-home visual inspection covering frame condition, threshold and sweep, weatherstripping, jamb plumb, hinge wear, lock function, sidelights and transom glass, storm door condition, and any rot at the rough opening. Written findings report with photos within 24 hours. No invoice if you do not move forward.
What’s the difference between ProVia and a builder-grade replacement door?
Builder-grade fiberglass uses thin face skins on a hollow polystyrene core, single weatherstrip seal, basic ball-bearing hinges, and a 5 to 10 year warranty. ProVia Signet uses a thick fiberglass skin on a polyurethane foam core that is 5x more energy-efficient than wood, Q-Lon and bulb weatherstrip seals at every contact edge, multipoint locking standard, factory-fit door slab + frame to plus-or-minus 1/64 inch, and a lifetime limited warranty earned only when installed by a certified ProVia dealer. ProVia Heritage and Embarq fiberglass sit between, with the same core construction at a lower price point. The price gap reflects door skin thickness, seal longevity, and Energy Star efficiency.
Do you handle hidden rot found at the door frame during tear-out?
Yes. We probe the threshold, jamb, and sill flashing with a moisture meter during the inspection BEFORE quoting, so the typical “we found rot, that’s $800 per opening” surprise does not happen. If significant rot or out-of-square framing is discovered only after tear-out (rare with our probe-first process), the contract calls out the per-opening rate up front. The quote you sign is the price you pay, barring genuine discovery items disclosed in the contract.
Do you handle insurance claim documentation for storm-damaged doors?
Yes. Wind-driven impact damage, hail damage to storm door glass, and water intrusion through compromised weatherstripping all qualify for insurance review. Our HAAG-certified inspector produces written findings adjusters use directly. We work alongside State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Erie, and Virginia Farm Bureau. We do not negotiate the claim itself, that requires a public adjuster license.
What credentials should a Northern Virginia or Maryland door contractor have?
Virginia: Class A Contractor License (verify on DPOR), liability insurance, workers compensation, manufacturer authorization (ProVia certified dealer for the lifetime entry-door warranty, Pella Platinum, Marvin Authorized, Andersen Certified), and HAAG Certified Inspector for storm-damage work. Maryland: MHIC license (verify on labor.maryland.gov/pq), same insurance, same certifications. Any contractor that cannot produce a current state license number should be declined.
Do you serve my city?
Yes if you’re in our NoVA or MD service territory. NoVA (served from our Springfield, VA office): Fairfax County, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford, Fauquier. MD (served from our Hanover, MD office): Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Baltimore, Frederick, Carroll counties. Full city list in the link cluster below.
