Standard Limited

Default OC manufacturer warranty. 25-year prorated material coverage. No workmanship coverage. Available from any roofer.

System Protection

10-year workmanship + 25-year prorated material. Requires installer registration. Available from Preferred and Platinum contractors.

Preferred Protection

10-year workmanship + 50-year prorated material. Requires Preferred or Platinum tier contractor. Material proration begins around year 10.

Platinum Protection

50-year non-prorated material + workmanship. Only Platinum Preferred contractors can register this. The non-prorated portion is the key: full replacement coverage at year 26 or year 49, not a depreciated percentage.

The year-26 difference

Hypothetical: a $18,500 roof needs material warranty work at year 26. Preferred Protection (prorated): you receive roughly $3,200-$5,400 toward replacement. Platinum Protection (non-prorated): full material replacement.

Transferability

All four tiers transfer to a new homeowner once. The Platinum tier’s transfer carries the full remaining non-prorated coverage, not a reduced version.

How DH registers

We file the warranty registration on your behalf within 30 days of install completion. You receive a copy of the registered warranty document via email and postal mail.

Verification

Owens Corning maintains a public contractor lookup at owenscorning.com/roofing/contractor. Verify any roofer’s current tier before signing. If they are listed as Preferred or below, they cannot register Platinum Protection.

What is the difference between Platinum and Preferred?

Both are real OC contractor tiers. Platinum is the highest tier and the only one that can register the 50-year non-prorated System Protection warranty. Preferred is the next tier down; it can register up to 50-year prorated coverage. The non-prorated vs prorated distinction is the big one: at year 26, non-prorated pays full material replacement value while prorated pays a depreciated portion.

Can a non-Platinum contractor install OC shingles and register Platinum Protection for me?

No. The Platinum warranty can only be registered by an active OC Platinum Preferred Contractor at the time of install. Some contractors falsely imply they can; the OC contractor lookup at owenscorning.com/roofing/contractor shows current tier and will surface the misrepresentation. Always verify before signing.

How do I verify a contractor’s OC tier?

Visit owenscorning.com/roofing/contractor and search by zip code or contractor name. The lookup shows current tier (Platinum, Preferred, Top of the House, or none). Tier shown is real-time. If a contractor claims Platinum but the lookup shows Preferred, walk away.
