Who We Are

Family-led, Springfield-based,
and still here in year 25.

Lenny Scarola started DreamHome in 1999 to combine connection with craftsmanship. He worked every role on the way up, from sales calls to crew supervision. Nish Patel joined in 2000 and rose from door-to-door sales to Vice President. Kevin Butler, our General Manager and HAAG Certified Inspector, joined in 2005 and has run every role in the company.

Two offices, same crews, same standards. Our Springfield, VA office serves Northern Virginia; our Hanover, MD office serves Maryland. After the storms pass and the trucks disappear, what matters is who is still standing.

How We Build

Roof systems built for the Mid-Atlantic.

Northern Virginia and Maryland roofs face mid-Atlantic extremes: 105 to 115 mph wind zones, summer hail, freeze-thaw winters, Chesapeake coastal humidity. We spec to ZIP code, not assumption.

01 / SHINGLE

Owens Corning Duration STORM & FLEX

Duration STORM for Class 4 impact resistance in hail-prone neighborhoods. FLEX for ASTM D7158 Class H wind resistance (150 mph rated). SureNail Technology nailing zone on every shingle. StreakGuard algae protection.

Class H WindUL 2218 Class 4SureNail
02 / SYSTEM

The full layered system, not just the shingle

Synthetic underlayment across the deck. Ice and water shield at eaves and valleys per Virginia USBC R905.1.2. Six-nail high-wind pattern. Full step flashing. Factory-matched drip edge. Balanced ridge-vent plus soffit-vent ventilation.

USBC R905.1.26-NailIce & Water
03 / COASTAL

Chesapeake-aware specs for Anne Arundel

Bay humidity drives Gloeocapsa magma algae and salt-aerosol exposure that Frederick or Carroll roofs never see. We spec StreakGuard, copper-clad valleys instead of aluminum, and tighter ventilation cadence. ZIP code matters.

04 / DIAGNOSIS

HAAG on the ladder, not a sales rep

Kevin Butler holds the HAAG Certified Inspector credential. Every storm-damage and insurance claim runs through that credential. The written findings report adjusters trust comes from us.

Five Promises

What we put
in writing.

Customers tell us five things sealed the decision. Each one is a contract clause with a number. If we miss one, we make it right at our cost. Not a marketing line, a contract obligation.

01

Every nail, every day.

Magnetic nail sweep across the property every day of the job. Final sweep and homeowner walkthrough before departure. Not “we’ll come back if you find one.” Done before we leave.

02

HOA approval, handled.

Burke Centre Conservancy. Reston Association. Columbia Association. Greenbriar. We’ve done the architectural review committee paperwork hundreds of times. You sign once, we do the rest, including color-board photos for the ACC file.

03

HAAG documentation for your adjuster.

Kevin Butler’s HAAG findings report is the standard adjusters are trained on. We deliver the file your adjuster needs to settle fairly. We don’t negotiate the claim, that needs a public adjuster license, but our documentation gets claims taken seriously.

04

Neighbors, not storm chasers.

Springfield and Hanover are physical offices, not PO boxes. Same crews on every job. The workmanship warranty stays valid because we’re still here in year 15. Storm chasers vanish; we don’t.

05

25-year workmanship warranty.

Layered on top of Owens Corning’s 50-year material warranty. Transferable if you sell the home. The full document is in every contract, not a verbal promise.

What to Expect

Inspection to install in seven steps.

Most homes complete install in a single day. The longest stretches are scheduling and HOA approval, not the install itself.

Manufacturer Tiers

Platinum Preferred vs
Master Elite vs SELECT.

All three certifications represent the top of the contractor pyramid. Fewer than 500 contractors per state hold any one. For Northern Virginia and Maryland specifically, Owens Corning Platinum Preferred carries the strongest local installer density.

None of the three is wrong. We chose Platinum Preferred because it ties our warranty to the manufacturer with the deepest installer network across the counties we serve. If something goes wrong in year 15, you can find a certified installer to honor the warranty. That is not guaranteed with the smaller networks.

Material Choice

Metal vs asphalt: which makes sense here?

Asphalt wins for the vast majority of NoVA and MD residential roofs. We install asphalt. We will tell you honestly when metal is the better call, even though it is not what we do.

Steep-pitch in a typical Northern Virginia subdivision: asphalt. Coastal Anne Arundel with low-slope sections, or a 50-year horizon with HOA permitting metal: metal. The inspection tells us which conversation to have.

Local Reality

What changes when you build a NoVA or MD roof.

Five region-specific things that matter here and rarely show up on contractor websites that aren’t this local.

Northern Virginia

Fairfax County permits + HOA approval, handled.

Fairfax has the strictest permit enforcement in NoVA. Combine that with the most active HOAs in the metro and a roof project becomes paperwork-heavy fast. We handle Fairfax PLUS permit applications, HOA architectural review submissions, and the color-match precision Reston and Burke Centre demand. You sign once.

Northern Virginia

Why Reston and Burke Centre roofs aren’t simple.

Reston requires roof colors that match the master plan. The names manufacturers print on shingle bundles don’t always match what Reston calls “Charcoal” or “Driftwood.” Burke Centre is similarly strict. We carry physical sample boards from Owens Corning to the HOA review meeting and document for the file.

Maryland

Why Maryland coastal roofs need different specs.

Anne Arundel sits in a different climate than Frederick or Carroll. Chesapeake Bay humidity drives Gloeocapsa magma algae, forces tighter ventilation, and creates salt-aerosol exposure on flashing that western Maryland never sees. Bayfront roofs need StreakGuard, copper-clad valleys, and step-flashing inspections on a 5-year cadence.

Insurance Claims

What your adjuster needs from us.

Storm damage claims share a structure: photo documentation of impact bruising, granule-loss measurements, written findings tied to ASTM D7158 wind-rating standards, and policy-applicable Roof Surfaces endorsement language. Erie added new endorsement language in 2024 that changes ACV/RCV treatment materially. Our HAAG inspector produces the documentation adjusters use themselves.

Maryland

Verify your Maryland roofer in 30 seconds.

Maryland uses an MHIC license, not a contractor tier like Virginia’s Class A. Verify a contractor’s MHIC at labor.maryland.gov/pq. Our MHIC is #86946. If a contractor can’t produce a current MHIC, walk away. If they say “we’re licensed in Virginia,” walk away faster. VA Class A doesn’t cover MD work.

Cost Transparency

What a roof costs in NoVA and MD.

Asphalt shingle replacement in NoVA and MD typically runs $12,500 to $25,000 for an average 2,500-sq-ft home with Owens Corning Duration shingles. Free inspection determines what fits your roof.

Roofing FAQ

Roofing questions NoVA and MD homeowners ask.

How long does a roof last in Northern Virginia or Maryland?
Realistic life of an asphalt architectural shingle roof in NoVA and MD is 25 to 30 years. Older 3-tab shingles in 1990s and 2000s-era subdivisions average 18 to 22 years in the local climate. If your roof is over 15 years old and showing granule loss, curling, or missing shingles, get a free inspection. Roof Maxx can extend life 5 to 15 years for eligible aging roofs.
Is the free inspection really free?
Yes, 100% free with no obligation. A HAAG Certified Inspector performs a full 21-point system inspection covering shingles, flashing, ventilation, decking condition, and moisture risk. Written findings report with photos within 24 hours. No invoice if you don’t move forward.
How quickly can someone come out?
Standard inspections schedule within 2-3 business days. Emergency calls (active leaks, storm damage, exposed decking) target same-day or next-morning response from both Springfield, VA and Hanover, MD offices. Springfield is near I-95 and I-495 for 30-minute Fairfax response.
Do you handle insurance claim documentation for storm damage?
Yes. Our HAAG Certified Inspector produces a written findings report with photo documentation and a scope of work suitable for insurance review. We don’t negotiate the claim itself (that requires a public adjuster license), but our documentation consistently helps homeowners get claims taken seriously. Familiar with State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Erie, and Virginia Farm Bureau claim processes.
What’s the difference between Roof Maxx and a full replacement?
Roof Maxx is a soybean-based polymer treatment that restores flexibility to aging asphalt shingles, extending life 5-15 years. Full replacement starts a new lifespan. Roof Maxx makes sense when shingles are aged but not failing. Full replacement makes sense when shingles are actively failing or insurance is funding it. We are Owens Corning Platinum Preferred AND an Authorized Roof Maxx Dealer, so the inspection tells us which path fits.
What credentials should a Northern Virginia or Maryland roofer have?
Virginia: Class A Contractor License (verify on DPOR), liability insurance, workers compensation, manufacturer certification (Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, GAF Master Elite, or CertainTeed SELECT are the top three tiers), and ideally a HAAG Certified Inspector on staff. Maryland: MHIC license (verify on labor.maryland.gov/pq), same insurance, same certifications. Any contractor that can’t produce a current state license number should be declined.
Do you serve my city?
Yes if you’re in our NoVA or MD service territory. NoVA (served from our Springfield, VA office): Fairfax County, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford, Fauquier. MD (served from our Hanover, MD office): Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Baltimore, Frederick, Carroll counties. Full city list in the link cluster below.
