Where we started

Windows Were Our First Trade, Since 1999

A lot of remodelers add windows after years of doing something else. We went the other direction. DreamHome opened in 1999 as a replacement window company in Springfield, Virginia, knocking on doors, measuring openings, and learning what separates a window that lasts thirty years from one that fogs up and fails in eight.

That head start shows up in the details. We have found rotted frames behind painted trim, handled lead paint in pre-1978 homes the right way, and matched window profiles inside Alexandria and Annapolis historic districts and HOA neighborhoods. As a ProVia Master Installer, our crews are certified by the manufacturer on the exact products we install.

Window styles we install

What We Install

Double-Hung

Two sashes that slide up and down, both tilt in for easy cleaning. The workhorse of the DMV colonial, rambler, and townhome.

Casement

Hinged on the side and cranked open. Seals the tightest of any operable window and catches a side breeze. Great over a kitchen sink.

Bay & Bow

Projects out from the wall for a shelf inside and more light. A bay uses three angled windows, a bow uses four or five in a curve.

Sliding

One or both sashes glide sideways on a track. Clean and low-profile, a natural fit for wide openings and contemporary homes.

Picture

A large fixed pane built for the view and daylight. No moving parts, so it is the most energy efficient and affordable per square foot of glass.

Awning

Hinged at the top, cranked open from the bottom, so the glass shields the opening. Leave it cracked in a summer storm and the rain runs off.

How Window Energy Ratings Actually Work

Salespeople throw these terms around to sound technical. Here is what each one really means for your home and your power bill.

The four numbers that matter

  • Low-E. A microscopically thin coating that reflects heat, keeping summer heat out and winter warmth in without darkening the view. Standard on every window we install.
  • Argon. A harmless, invisible gas sealed between the panes. Denser than air, so it slows heat transfer. The quiet upgrade that does real work.
  • U-Factor. How well the window keeps heat from escaping. Lower is better. A low U-factor means your furnace works less in January.
  • SHGC. Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, or how much sun heat the window lets in. Lower is better for our hot summers.

For a DMV home you want a low U-factor and a low SHGC, with Low-E glass and an argon fill. Every window we install meets ENERGY STAR for our climate zone as standard. Replacing original single-pane or 1980s aluminum-frame windows with a properly sealed ProVia system typically cuts heating and cooling costs by 15 to 25 percent on an average home.

The IRA 25C tax credit can pay you back

Under the federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (the 25C credit), ENERGY STAR Most Efficient qualified windows are eligible for a tax credit worth 30 percent of the cost, up to $600 per year for windows. It is a credit, not a deduction, and it resets each year, so phased projects can claim it across multiple tax years. ProVia produces the manufacturer certification statement and we hand you that paperwork with your ENERGY STAR documentation. Confirm specifics with your accountant. Read the current rules on the ENERGY STAR federal tax credit page and the IRS Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit guidance.

From measure to final caulk

The 7-Step Window Install

The unglamorous details decide whether you love your windows or fight them. We do not rush them.

1

In-home measure & estimate

Every opening measured. Retrofit vs full-frame recommended in writing with a fixed price.

2

Order & manufacture

ProVia builds your windows to the measured sizes. ecoLite or ENDURE, glass package, grid pattern, and color confirmed.

3

Remove old window

Old sash and frame removed cleanly. Lead-safe containment on pre-1978 homes. Opening protected.

4

Inspect & prep opening

Rot, gaps, and out-of-square framing flagged. Any repair scoped before we set the window.

5

Set plumb & square

The window shimmed plumb, level, and square so it opens, closes, and seals the way it was engineered to.

6

Foam, flash & seal

Low-expansion foam around the frame, proper flashing, and a continuous air seal. The step most crews shortcut.

7

Trim, caulk & final walk

Interior and exterior trim finished, caulk lines reviewed, every window tested. You sign off before we leave.

Common Questions

From Lenny Scarola, President, DreamHome Remodeling

“Replacement windows were our first trade in 1999. We have seen it all, rotted frames, lead paint, failed seals, historic millwork. Experience matters.”

Alek Dolgushev, Project Coordinator: “Like a lot of immigrant families, we had to learn everything as we went — the language, the culture, how businesses work here. So I understand what it feels like when you know what you want to say, but you’re worried the words won’t come out perfectly. The DMV is full of families who speak different languages at home, and DreamHome is here for all of them.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How long has DreamHome been replacing windows?

DreamHome started as a replacement window company in 1999, which makes windows the trade we have done the longest, more than 25 years. We later added roofing, siding, doors, gutters, and insulation, but windows are our original business and still a core part of what we do across Virginia and Maryland.

What window brand does DreamHome install?

We install ProVia replacement windows and we are a certified ProVia Master Installer. ProVia builds professional-grade vinyl windows with fusion-welded frames and a transferable lifetime warranty. The ecoLite line is the energy-rated value tier and the ENDURE line is the premium tier with a foam-filled frame and a triple-pane glass option.

Will new windows really lower my energy bill?

Yes, meaningfully. Replacing original single-pane or 1980s aluminum-frame windows with a properly sealed ProVia system that has Low-E glass and an argon fill typically cuts heating and cooling costs by 15 to 25 percent on an average DMV home. The key phrase is properly sealed, which is why install quality matters as much as the window itself.

Do new windows qualify for a federal tax credit?

Many do. Under the federal 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, ENERGY STAR Most Efficient qualified windows are eligible for a credit of 30 percent of the cost, up to $600 per year for windows. We provide the ProVia manufacturer certification and ENERGY STAR documentation you need to claim it. Confirm the details with your tax advisor.

What is the difference between retrofit and full-frame installation?

A retrofit, or insert, install keeps the existing sound frame and sets the new window into it. It is faster and more affordable and works in most homes. A full-frame install removes everything down to the rough opening, replaces flashing, and rebuilds the trim. It is the right call when frames are rotted, an opening is being resized, or maximum air sealing is the goal. We tell you which one your home needs and why.

How much does window replacement cost in Virginia and Maryland?

As a 2026 reference, energy-rated ProVia ecoLite double-hung windows run roughly $450 to $750 each installed, and premium ENDURE runs roughly $700 to $1,200 each. A whole-house project commonly lands between $8,000 and $25,000 depending on the line you choose, with specialty and full-frame work running higher.
