Why ProVia in the DMV

Why ProVia Is the DreamHome Window of Choice

The DMV window market is dominated by three names: Andersen, Pella, and the high-volume vinyl manufacturers. ProVia is the contractor’s choice for a reason most homeowners do not see at the showroom level.

Build-to-Order, Ships Direct

ProVia does not stock windows in distribution warehouses. Every order is built to the exact opening size you measure, finished in the color you select, with the glass package you specify. The window ships from the Ohio plant directly to the install location. The result is a window that fits the opening correctly on the first install, not one that has been sitting in a warehouse for 18 months.

Foam-Wrapped Frame Standard

Most DMV homes lose heat at the window frame, not the glass. ProVia builds frames with rigid foam insulation insert as a standard feature on Endure and Endure Plus lines. The wall U-factor at the window frame is meaningfully lower than competitor vinyl frames in the same size range. The difference shows up in winter heating bills.

Color-Through Vinyl

ProVia premium vinyl is color-throughout, not surface-coated. A scratch in the frame from a moving van or a falling branch does not expose a different color underneath. The color goes all the way through the vinyl extrusion. Matters more on darker color selections than on standard whites.

Lifetime Transferable Warranty

ProVia’s product warranty is transferable to the next homeowner on sale of the property. The transfer is documented and adds real resale value. On a typical DMV 18 to 28-window installation, the warranty transfer documentation is part of the inspection report when the home goes on the market.

“Even the best windows in the world installed incorrectly can fail. ProVia knows that. Their Master Installer program does not exist because they want to sell more windows. It exists because they want their warranty to actually mean something. We’ve held Master Installer status for years because the warranty math only works when the install crews know the spec.”

ProVia install details that matter

What a Master Installer Install Actually Looks Like

Site Measurement Before Order

Every ProVia window is built to the opening, not pulled from stock. Our installer measures every opening on the property, documents square-and-plumb deviations, and orders the window with the right tolerances built in. Most stock-pulled window installs require shims and fillers that ProVia direct-order installs do not.

Full-Frame vs Pocket Retrofit

Full-frame replacement rips the existing window down to the rough opening and installs the new ProVia with proper flashing tape, sill pan, and foam seal at the frame. Pocket retrofit inserts the new window into the existing frame. Full-frame is the better install but costs 20 to 35 percent more. We recommend based on the existing condition, not the upsell.

Foam Seal Around the Frame

Low-expansion polyurethane foam fills the gap between the new ProVia frame and the rough opening or existing pocket. This is the seal that stops air infiltration. Most low-bid window installers skip this step or use poor-quality foam that breaks down within 5 years. We use ProVia-spec low-expansion foam on every install.

Exterior Aluminum Coil-Stock Trim Wrap

The exterior brick mould or wood casing around the window is wrapped in color-matched aluminum coil stock. This is the maintenance-free finish that eliminates the rot-prone wood trim that fails 5 to 10 years after a window install on most DMV homes. Standard ProVia install practice, often omitted on cheap window jobs.

ProVia window questions

From Lenny Scarola, President, DreamHome Remodeling

“Replacement windows were our first trade in 1999. We have seen it all, rotted frames, lead paint, failed seals, historic millwork. Experience matters.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DreamHome a certified ProVia installer?
Yes. DreamHome is a ProVia Master Installer across Northern Virginia and Central Maryland. The Master Installer certification requires demonstrated install volume, ProVia-spec install training, and ongoing quality verification by ProVia. The certification is required for the homeowner to receive the full transferable lifetime warranty registration.
How much does a ProVia window cost installed?
The average installed cost of a ProVia Endure window (the DMV install standard) is $850 to $1,300 per window as of 2026. ProVia Aspect entry-tier runs $650 to $1,000. ProVia Endure Plus premium runs $1,050 to $1,650. ProVia Aeris fiberglass runs $1,400 to $2,400. Full-house ProVia replacement on a DMV single-family home with 18 to 28 windows typically runs $15,500 to $28,000.
What is the difference between ProVia and Andersen or Pella?
ProVia is build-to-order with direct factory shipping. Andersen and Pella both have larger distribution networks with stocked products. ProVia’s foam-wrapped frame and color-through vinyl perform better than entry-tier Andersen or Pella vinyl. Andersen 400 Series and Pella Architect lines are premium wood-clad lines that compete with ProVia Aeris at the premium end. For vinyl, ProVia is typically the better DMV value. For wood-clad, the three compete more directly.
Does ProVia offer triple-pane glass?
Yes. Triple-pane glass is available across the Endure, Endure Plus, and Aeris product lines. The upgrade adds 18 to 30 percent per window. Triple-pane provides meaningful R-value improvement and sound reduction. Recommended on north-facing exposures, second-story windows over high-traffic areas, and homes near major roadways or airports.
Is the ProVia warranty really transferable?
Yes. The ProVia limited lifetime warranty is fully transferable to the next homeowner on sale of the property. Transfer documentation is provided to the homeowner at install and can be passed at home sale. The transferable warranty adds real resale value to the home, particularly in DMV resale markets where buyers expect to see warranty documentation on premium upgrades.
How long does a ProVia window install take?
Per-window install time runs 45 to 90 minutes for pocket retrofit and 90 to 150 minutes for full-frame replacement. Full-house installs of 18 to 28 ProVia windows typically complete in 3 to 5 working days. The full project from contract signing to final HOA inspection typically runs 21 to 35 days when manufacturer lead times are factored in (ProVia builds to order in approximately 4 to 6 weeks).
Will my HOA approve ProVia window replacement?
Yes, in virtually every DMV HOA we work with. ProVia color and finish options span the typical HOA-approved palette. The window profile and trim detail match standard residential architectural specifications. We pull the HOA approval form, provide the ProVia color chip and product documentation, and submit on the homeowner’s behalf when requested.
Can ProVia windows be installed in Annapolis Historic District or Old Town Alexandria?
Yes. ProVia offers divided-light grid options, period-appropriate trim profiles, and custom color matches that meet historic district review criteria. We coordinate with the Annapolis Historic Preservation Commission and Old Town Alexandria Board of Architectural Review on every historic district scope.

Local detail that actually matters

Window Codes and Permits in Virginia and Maryland

  • Replacement windows fall under Chapter 6 of the Virginia Residential Code and the energy provisions of the IECC. The DMV sits in climate zone 4, where a U-factor of about 0.30 to 0.32 or better is expected.
  • Bedrooms and other sleeping rooms carry an egress requirement (Section R310). The replacement window must keep at least 5.7 square feet of clear opening, a 24 inch minimum opening height, a 20 inch minimum opening width, and a sill no higher than 44 inches above the floor.
  • Dropping in a smaller window that shrinks the egress opening in a bedroom can fail inspection, which is why DreamHome measures egress before ordering.
  • Permit requirements for window replacement vary by jurisdiction. DreamHome confirms with the local building official before installation.

Neighborhoods We Work In

DreamHome crews are on roofs and walls across Northern Virginia every week, including Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Springfield, and across the bridge in Maryland communities such as Columbia, Silver Spring. We live in these communities, we know the housing stock, and we know which county building official issues the permit.

That local footprint is not a marketing line. It is why we already know the HOA architectural rules in places like Burke Centre, Reston, and Columbia, and the inspection quirks county to county.

The Honest Standard

I would rather lose a job because someone needed time to think than pressure someone into making a decision they do not fully understand.Lenny Scarola, Founder, DreamHome Remodeling

We will tell you what your home actually needs, even when that is less than you expected to hear. Sometimes the answer is a repair, not a replacement. Sometimes it is a few more years, not a tear-off. The inspection comes first, and the report is yours to keep either way.

No Pressure. No Today-Only Games. Just an Honest Answer.

A real inspection, a clear explanation, and an honest assessment of what your home needs. No manager phone call, no inflated price waiting to be discounted if you sign tonight. Family-led since 1999.
