Gorell sliding windows are also commonly called slider windows. These windows move horizontally from either side. A great aspect is easy cleaning ability. Sliding windows come either as tilt out windows or lift out windows. This makes it a breeze to clean both the inside and outside of the window glass. No longer is this just a luxury for double hung windows.

The sliding windows by Gorell also have the child safety lock to restrict the amount the window can open. gorell picture window
Gorell picture windows are stationary windows that do no open or close. For this reason they are the most energy efficient windows in the product line. The window frames are kept thin to maximize the glass space. This opens up the room and lets the most outside light in.

Many options are available in the picture windows by Gorell. You can have the window with grids or without. If you choose grids, also known as mullions to many, the grids can be inside the panes of glass. This gives a smooth surface over the entire window for easy cleaning.

gorell double hung windows
The most popular of of all Gorell windows is the double hung window. Both window sashes slide up and down for ventilation on the bottom and top of the window. Both window sashes also tilt inward, for easy cleaning both inside and out.

On the lower sash of Gorell Double Hung Windows is a built in child safety feature. Two latches pop out with a touch of the finger to prevent the window from opening more than a few inches. This keeps small children and pets in the home. It also allows the home owner to leave the window slightly open without it easily being opened all the way by an outside intruder.

Double hung windows by Gorell lift up and down effortlessly due to the constant force balance system in the window frames. It uses the concept of a tape measurer (coil spring) to provide finger tip opening and closing. Constant force balancers also act as locking mechanism when windows are tilted out for cleaning. Window sashes lock in place so they do not come out into your arms or slide up and down when cleaning. This is the most common service call in the window industry across the board.

Double Hung Options

  • Double Pane double hung
  • Triple Pane double hung
  • Grids
  • Argon Gas / Krypton Gas
  • Low-E

What are the best replacement windows? How can you tell the difference? #1

Replacement Windows - How to Choose

So...what are the bet replacement windows? How to measure one against another?

The truth is, replacement windows are just like any other product out on the market. You will have pockets from all over each arguing why replacement window A is better than replacement window B.

Assuming that each window is installed by a seasoned professional installer, the 3 main differences that distinguish one window from another is the energy efficiency, the ease of operation, and aesthetics.

1. Energy Efficiency

The energy efficiency of a window is determined by:

1.  The # of panes of glass, either double pane or triple pane

2.  The type of gas in between the glass, Argon gas or Krypton gas

3.  The thickness of the panes of glass

4.  THe thickness of the vinyl walls that make up the chambers in the window frame

Fortunately, you don't have to analyze each for yourself.  The NFRC, the National Fenestartion Ratings Coucil, has done all this research on most all major brands of windows that are offered to homeowners.

The factors listed above are quantfied into what's known as the U-Factor, and the Solar Heat Gain Co-efficient.  The U-Factor is the measurement of how much energy (hot or cold), transfers through the windows, whether it's inside out, or outside in.  The Solar Heat Gain Co-efficient, is the measure of how much light passes through the window, compared to how much light is actually hitting the window.  In other words, how much sun light does the window allow in.

Whichever window has a low U-Value and SHGC value, most likely the more expensive it is, and the better peformer it will be.

2.  Window Aesthetics

To be discussed in the next article...
